Anne's Life Without Children

"Anne Blythe! Come on, we need to get going or we'll be late!"
"Alright alright! I'm just putting on my jewelry darling!" Anne yelled to her husband Dr. Gilbert Blythe. Gilbert was getting perturbed with his wife at the moment. She was going to make them late to the dinner party with some of his colleagues and their wives. That thought escaped Gilbert's head when his wife appeared at the stairwell. She was wearing a lovely green dress with rosebuds on it. It reminded Gilbert of his favorite dress that Anne had once worn to a dance when they attended Redmond. It was the same dress she wore when he proposed the second time and she had accepted, obviously.
"Gil, how do I look?"
"Absolutely stunning Anne'o'mine! Shall we go now?"
"Why of course Dr. Blythe!" And they left their little house of dreams.
It was a quiet trip to the dinner party, but Anne made up for her talking there.
"Why Mrs. Blythe!" A woman who Anne had no idea who she was said. "It's so nice to see you again!"
Anne didn't know what to say, "it's nice to see you too!"
Another woman passed, "Oh, that dress is perfectly lovely! The green matches your eyes perfectly!"
"Thank you!" Anne smiled, revealing her beautiful white teeth.
Just then, there was a cry, "look everybody! It's Anne Blythe! The famous authoress!" Everyone crowded around Anne except Gil who was standing in a corner, smiling his unforgettable smile, holding a glass of wine.
"Oh, Mrs. Blythe! Where ever did you get the idea for your latest book 'Kindred Spirits'? It's absolutely romantic! First enemies, then chums, then sweethearts, and now lovers!"
"Actually, that is my husband's and my story! We were enemies, then chums, then sweethearts, and now lovers!"
"How utterly romantic! Please tell us more about your husband and yourself! Dr. Blythe! Why don't you come help your wife tell us your story!" Gilbert just smirked and walked over to Anne, gave her a kiss on the cheek, and stood by her. Together, they told the women the story of Anne and Gil!
"Oh! That is so utterly romantic!" the same woman exclaimed once again.
Anne smiled once again, "please excuse us," and Anne walked with Gil over to where he was standing before. "Gil, why did you just stand there? You know I don't like being called the "famous authoress"! Why didn't you do something?"
"I-I-" Gil started.
"Come on, we have to go home."
"What will I tell-"
"Just say I just had a wonderful idea for a plot for a story." And that's what Gil did. Anne still had her fiery temper that matched her red hair from when they were children, but now, Anne's hair looked beautifully auburn.
It was a painful and quiet ride home for the two! Finally Gilbert couldn't stand it any longer! "Anne! I'm really sorry that I upset you! I hate it when your mad at me! Will you please forgive me?"
"Not until you tell me what you did wrong!" Anne wanted to forgive him, but she loved hearing him apologize.
"I know that you hate being called 'The famous authoress' and I stood back and allowed you to answer questions, and being called a thing you hate! I should know better! But Anne, I'm really sorry! I won't do it again! I promise! Please forgive me? You have no idea how utterly sorry I am!" This all made Anne smile.
"Alright Gil! I'll forgive you! But under one condition!"
"What?"
"You tell me how much you love me, and promise it won't happen again!"
"I promise! And there aren't enough words, and minutes in the world to tell you how much I love you!"
"I know, I just love hearing you say that! Gil, pull over for a moment!"
"Alright Queen Anne! Why?"
"Because I don't want to distract you, but I can't go another minute without kissing you!"
"Well, I won't keep you waiting!" Gilbert leaned down, and gave Anne a very long, passionate kiss. Then he held her in his arms for a moment.
After the two let go, Anne's face was solemn.
"Gil?" she asked.
"Yes, Anne-girl?"
"I'm going to have a baby."
"A baby! Oh Anne, that's wonderful! We're going to be parent's!" Gil embraced Anne in his arms in what we'd call a bear hug.
"I'm happy that your so happy about this Gil!" Anne said with a semi concerned look on her face. Gil noticed the look and was concerned.
"Anne? What on earth is the matter? Aren't you happy?"
"I am happy Gil! It's just that it's going to change our lives forever! I'm scared! I don't know what to expect! I mean-" Anne was cut off by Gil.
"Anne, this is common to be scared! But don't worry! Dr. Dave and I will answer any of your questions, I'll make sure your healthy, and well taken care of! Don't worry sweetheart! I love you, and I'd never let anything happen to you or our child! That is my promise to you darling!" Gil leaned over and kissed Anne on the cheek. "Shall we go home now?"
"I like that idea! Thank you Gil!"
"What for?"
"For being the best husband a person could ever have!"
"I love you Anne! It brings the best out in me!"
"Just get us home Gil!"
"Alright!"
They got to their House of Dreams, and all they way, Gil kept on repeating "A baby! A baby?" in a whispering voice. Anne was getting annoyed.
"Oh Anne! Oh Anne! A baby!" Gil said.
"Yes, Gil, I'm excited too, but you don't have to-"
"Well, you're not in a very good mood," he exclaimed.
"Oh Gil," she snuggled close beside him. "I'm-I'm- scared." Her voice choked and she started crying, Gil didn't know what to do, so he started comforting her.
"Anne-girl, it will be alright, everything will be alright. Just think of how happy you will be, we'll be parents." Anne looked up into his eyes and smiled. He was smiling too. Anne always felt better after she saw him smile his beautiful smile and she calmed down.
The next morning, Gil was woken up by a newly installed telephone ringing.
"Hello?. Yes, I'll be right there!"
"Who was it, Dear?" Anne asked sleepily and then yawned.
"Oh, don't you worry about it, I must get going."
Anne woke up a little more, she knew that it was one of their friends and Gil didn't want her to worry.
"Who was it!?"
"Anne-girl,-"
"Gil!"
"Anne, listen, I'm sorry, I need to go, I'll telephone you from there. You go work on one of your stories or something," Gil quickly finished getting dressed and walked to the closet to get his coat and hat.
"But where will you be?!" she asked desperately.
"I need to go, I'll call you when I get there." And with that, Gil walked out of their House of Dreams and slammed the door behind him.
